A New Approach to Sequential Rate-Distortion Problems and Applications

Abstract:
We discuss various trade-off problems, such as data quality vs communication constraints in data streaming, privacy vs utility in real-time usage of sensitive data, and sensing quality vs sensing cost in sensor scheduling problems, in the framework of sequential rate-distortion (SRD) theory. A new solution algorithm based on convex optimization is proposed. Information flow in Kalman filtering will be also discussed in this context.Biography:http://www.mit.edu/~ttanaka/
